Glass has been used in the decoration of buildings for a thousand years.

Glass tiles are becoming very popular in the home as they bring depth, luminescence & character to any project.

Glass tiles are commonly more expensive than ceramic tiles, the unique effects they offer easily make up for the extra cost.

As with all glass products, glass tiles can be scratched. Country Custom Tile recommends that care is taken in the installation and that glass tiles are not put in high-risk areas for scratching.

Due to the transparent nature of most glass tiles, an even application of white adhesive is recommended. Failure to this can lead to the adhesive being visible through the tile in certain lights.

Particular care should be taken when to use the correct grout. Coloured grouts are not recommended, unless specified suitable for use with glass tiles. For more help and advice on installation, please contact us and we will be more than happy to help answer all of your questions.

A major benefit of using glass tile backsplashes is that unlike granite or ceramic tile, glass is resistant to mold and mildew, making it much easier to maintain.

Also, if you’re looking to really highlight your backsplash, glass is awesome because of the way it reflects light, either natural or artificial.

Unfortunately, glass scratches easily…and trust me, the scratch will show. Also, should you decide to replace the scratched glass tile, it’s a real headache to remove and replace!

Design Notes

There are ways around this though, if you go for a multi-colored texture looking mosaic as illustrated here, then any scratching will not be visible!

Glass mosaic tile is making it’s way into every room of the house. They’re popping up in bathrooms, sun rooms, mud rooms, and as kitchen backsplash tile, but what are the actual benefits to using this tile and why is it becoming so popular?

Glass tiles can be used in a virtually unlimited range of applications: kitchen backsplash, bathroom backsplashes, walls, showers, borders to soften ceramic tiled walls, highlight building features and any application to suit your taste. With the use of effective lighting, a color mosaic tile can turn the most undesirable of areas into a stunning work of art. Why not create a stunning mosaic bathroom wall. It’s a great way to give your bathroom a new look.
